Park City Mountain, under the leadership of Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch, is looking forward to kicking off construction on a new gondola project in Canyons Village in the near future. During a recent quarterly earnings call, Lynch highlighted the prospective gondola as part of their upcoming ventures.

At Park City Mountain, we expect to engage in a planning process to support the replacement of the Sunrise lift with a new 10-person gondola in partnership with the Canyons Village Management Association in calendar year 2025, which will provide improved access and enhanced guest experience for existing and future developments within Canyons VillageVail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch

Enhancing Canyons Village with a Modern Gondola

The proposed gondola, designed to accommodate up to 10 passengers, is set to replace the existing Sunrise lift. This initiative is not a standalone project but a collaboration between Park City Mountain and the Canyons Village Management Association.

Park City Mountain spokesperson, Sara Huey, hinted at a potential start date for the project. According to her, the groundbreaking could commence as early as the coming year, provided all necessary approvals are granted.

Improved Access & Guest Experience For Future Growth

The primary aim of this construction is to enhance the overall guest experience while facilitating better access for both current and future developments within Canyons Village.

While Vail Resorts enjoyed a fruitful year, pocketing a profit of $268 million due to an all-time high in visitation and increased expenditure across its many resorts, their dining service didn’t meet expectations and still lags behind pre-COVID-19 levels.

Ancillary businesses, including ski school, dining, and retail/rental, experienced strong growth compared to the prior period, when those businesses were impacted by capacity constraints driven by staffing, and in the case of dining, by operational restrictions associated with COVID-19.Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch

Epic Pass Sales & New My Epic App

EpicPass LogoLast month, Vail Resorts also announced a 7% increase in Epic Pass sales for the forthcoming season compared to last year. The prices of these passes have risen by 8% from the previous year, with a full Epic Pass now priced at $949. However, these prices are scheduled to rise further on October 11.

Vail is experiencing robust sales growth, particularly among renewing passholders and newcomers. During the last winter, roughly 75% of resort visits were made by Epic Pass holders, showing a slight increase from the previous season.

This year, the newly introduced My Epic app will enable skiers and riders to scan their passes and lift tickets from their phones using Bluetooth technology, thereby eliminating the requirement for plastic cards.

In the first year of this new service, Vail will provide plastic cards for passes and lift tickets to all guests. In the years to follow, plastic cards will be made available to any guests who are unable or unwilling to use their phone to store their pass or ticket.
