Myrtle Beach – Top 10 Destinations for 2020

Summer. What memories or emotions does that word evoke for you? Right now, at the start of a new year with lots of new snow for much of the country, summer might seem like a long a long time away. But summer will return before we know it! And for me, the word “summer” makes me think of family reunions.

Moonrise Over Myrtle Beach

That is likely because every two years my husband’s immediate family chooses a vacation spot somewhere in the US and takes a week of vacation together. Since we are spread out coast-to-coast across the USA, these vacations are our chance to reconnect. Our growing family (25 if all can attend) has traveled to Lake Tahoe, Daytona Beach, Williamsburg and the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, to name just a few. Since the last couple of trips have been inland, last year we ventured back to the ocean. Specifically, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. For most of us, this was our first vacation to this part of the country.

Wyndham Seawatch Plantation

We stayed at Wyndham Seawatch Plantation, a fantastic oceanfront property between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach. The resort itself is home to two lazy rivers, six pools, and more hot tubs than I could count. And of course, convenient beach access.

The condo units at Seawatch Plantation feature fully equipped kitchens which are so convenient with hungry teenagers and to prepare family dinners. Our two-bedroom unit also had a washer/dryer and a balcony with an oceanfront view. (In fact, all units are advertised as being ocean or oceanfront views.) The resort helpfully put all our families on the same floor so that it was easier for us to connect with each other.

Myrtle Beach is a great destination with so much to do regardless of your budget. We spent one morning go-carting, an afternoon at the local Aquarium, a different morning mini-golfing and a couple of afternoons souvenir shopping. But most of our time was spent poolside or on the beach. The Atlantic Ocean was warm and the waves large enough to enjoy boogie-boarding in the afternoons. We’ve been to the ocean up and down the east coast, and this was by far my favorite beach experience. And after enjoying the sun and surf, we could cool off with a drink from the poolside Tiki bar or the Starbucks® in one of the resort towers.

Myrtle Beach Sunrise

While this was a first-time visit to Myrtle Beach, it quickly found itself on my top 10 list of places to go in the USA. In fact, we felt like we just scratched the surface of fun activities to do in the area. We will definitely return again to explore more of Myrtle Beach and enjoy the fantastic beaches.
