The United States has had presidents from all over the country. There are some great sites and parks you can visit to learn more about our founding fathers and those who helped shape this country. In honor of Presidents’ Day, let’s look at the top 5 historical presidential attractions our great country has to offer.

5. The Sixth Floor MuseumJohn F. Kennedy

In Dallas, Texas, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is housed in the former Texas School Book Depository. This is the location from which the notorious Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated president John F. Kennedy in 1963.

The museum showcases the life, legacy, and assassination of the beloved 35th president of the United States.

This year is the museum’s 30th anniversary. So, if you’re in the area this Presidents Day, it would be an especially good time to check it out!

4. Mount VernonMount Vernon

Located about 15 miles south of Washington D.C. in Virginia, Mount Vernon is the historic home and estate of George and Martha Washington.

Aside from honoring George Washington’s legacy, Mount Vernon houses several colonial era buildings.

See a working distillery and gristmill and stroll through the breathtaking grounds and gardens. Into museums? Mount Vernon has one of those, too!

3. John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and MuseumJFK Library

This impressive library and museum is located on the waterfront of Boston, Massachusetts.

It not only houses some of the greatest and complete literary works in the country, but has 3 theaters and many multimedia experiences. While here, you can get a first hand look at the legacy of John F. Kennedy.

Now through November 28, 2019, there is a special Centennial Exhibition open called JFK 100-Milestones & Mementos.

You can also enjoy a picnic on the harbor walk. If the timing is right, you may even get a glimpse of J.F.K.’s sailboat Victura, which is on display annually from May through October.

In Simi Valley, California, on a hill looking over Los Angeles, is the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Here you can not only learn about our 40th president, but view parts of the Berlin wall. You may also step aboard an Air Force One that served seven presidents.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library houses a number of fun and educational sights and exhibits. It usually hosts temporary exhibits, as well. Now through April 21, 2019, you can see original 2,000-year-old ash-preserved objects in Pompeii: The Exhibition.

The Black Hills of Rapid City, South Dakota is home to one of the most iconic and well-known tributes to 4 former presidents of the United States.

The awe-inspiring busts of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln took over 14 years to complete and cost one million dollars to create.

There is much to see and do at this landmark. Here, you can learn about the presidents and the sculptor and enjoy some hiking as well as a memorial lighting ceremony, among other things.
