Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park SignLocated just an hour and a half north of Denver, Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the nation’s most well known parks. Known as “the roof of the world” Rocky Mountain National Park boasts 72 breathtaking peaks that rise above 12,000 feet. At 415 square miles, there is plenty to do and take in at this fantastic travel destination.

If you enjoy fishing, it doesn’t get much better. Rocky Mountain National Park has over 50 lakes and plenty of streams for you to choose from. The park is protected land, but sport fishing is permitted. You will need a Colorado fishing license, and there are some special regulations, but the license is easily attainable so you should have no problem getting that line in the water.

Rocky Mountain MeadowA great way to tour the park, aside from hiking and the scenic drives, is on horseback. There are two stables actually located inside of the park, Moraine Park Stables, and Glacier Stables, both of which open in late May. The park does allow outside stables to bring horses in as well, so you will have a few options.

The park also offers many Ranger-led events as well as events at the many visitor centers depending on the time of year. Stop by the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center or the Kawuneeche Visitor Center to see the two short movies, Spirit of the Mountains and Wilderness, Wildlife, Wonders, which are both shown daily.
